Who We Are

Preventing Obesity in at Risk Teens (PORT) is an organization committed and dedicated to reducing obesity rates in youth that are facing this epidemic in Los Angeles, California. Through the promotion of quality health education, training, social support and a myriad of other resources, PORT hopes to provide a bridge to a healthier tomorrow.

We are a group of passionate individuals with extensive experience and knowledge in the public health field that can translate to our goals for PORT. Our mission is to not only support and fight alongside those living with obesity and those at risk for obesity, but to create resources and groups that are sustainable, effective, and translatable. We hope to promote change with the help of our organization and the support of other like-minded individuals or groups. With our mission in place and principles guiding us, PORT strives to reduce obesity rates significantly throughout the country and subsequently throughout the world so we can achieve a healthier future together.

Our Approach

Our approach is to leverage the PORT organization as a central resource and focus on spreading core message of quality health education, training, social support at individual High Schools. We work with Career Counselors at High Schools, encouraging their students to start a PORT club (Chapter) in their school and leverage resources provided to fight obesity in their school. This approach provides us with a centralized mechanism for creation of high quality resources and leverage local talent for messaging and any necessary localization.
